Sanjay Sanwal Bombay based film maker is an Indian filmmaker based in Mumbai with an experience of more than 20 years in production, writing and filmmaking. Sanjay Sanwal has been making ad-films and short films in Mumbai, India. His short films are mostly based on social issues. Currently his film Kannu, a film on child labor is being awarded at the Emirates Film Festival. Kannu has bagged more than two dozen awards and screening at awards and film festivals around the globe. The film has been screened and appreciated in countries like Australia, Bangladesh, Japan, Kenya, Nepal, Oman, Qatar, Sri Lanka, U.S.A. and others including several film fests. in India. The film was submitted at the Cannes, Toronto and Venice film festival. Kannu- which tells the story of a well-off man who keeps his promise to go trekking to the hills with his family. The children enjoy their hike and are famished as they trace their steps back. They eye a roadside food stall and make a bee line for it. There, while gorging on their food, the children see a boy of their age doing the dishes and other menial jobs. They learn from the owner that he does so for his own and his sick grandma’s survival. His plight evokes a sense of concern and apathy to all the members. They are left appalled and left wondering what they and the society at large can do to stop child labor.
This film has been written and produced by Sanjay Sanwal with an eye on the award for the Cannes and other prestigious film festivals awards like Toronto, Venice and others. The film, of 10-minutes duration, is shot on a 4K camera. Made in Hindi language, it has been dubbed and subtitled in English.
